Despite the nose gear falling off the plane in Los Angeles and the Angelinos' disturbing obsession with x-raying my shoes, I am home. I have been gone for two weeks and, on average, I haven't seen a bloody thing that's been posted in that time. If you think it's really important that I see it, drop me an email or a comment.

You know what I want from you. It'd be perfect for a Friday Tradition.

So do they have highly-advanced shoe-only devices, or what's the deal, anyway?

They always X-ray my shoes whenever I'm flying, too, but my shoes are steel-toed boots, so I just automatically put 'em in the bin for the machine.

Regular x-ray machines. I just had to go through security a whole pile of times. And yes, I was wearing steel-toes, because I forgot my normal shoes at home. And in the US, they insist on always nuking your shoes regardless.

I thought all airport security did that. Every time I've flown in like the last 4 years, I've had to take off my shoes. For a while after the shoe-bomber dude, they were even swabbing them and analyzing them for trace chemicals.

Out of Canada[1], US, and New Zealand[2], only the US airports insist on zapping shoes. In CA and NZ, they only need to zap them if they'll fail the metal detector test.

[1]: Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal
[2]: Auckland, Christchurch, Blenheim[3]
[3]: Blenheim doesn't even HAVE an x-ray machine.

And now I have a mental image ('mental video'?) of a passenger saying, "Could you warm these up for me? Thanks." as he puts his shoes on the conveyor belt.

There's a new year for some people.

Oh, and one group of the mad desert god people are firing things at one of the other groups of the mad desert god people, and the third group of mad desert god people is crying about it and saying one or the other is at fault.

It's very confusing.

The prisons are full, so they are considering shipping the convicts to Australia.
