Where are you getting that this is religious homophobia? I mean, not a bad assumption statistically, but there's even no brimstone hellfire in the letter, unless you read the "they didn't care while living" part that way?

(Tangentially, because my brain is frozen right now: What is a stronger word than homophobia, stronger in the sense that it is active homosexual-harming we are talking about here? There must be something Latin-based, and I must know it, but my brain is not giving words up easily today. And no, I do not want "homo-bashing"---way too informal for what I am thinking.)

It threatens homosexuals and gives a fake-sympathetic comment about how they obviously don't care about their lives now.

It's absolutely spot-on perfect Christian.

And skinheads don't ever talk about how sad it is that you're wasting your potential being gay. They're also extremely unlikely to know how a proper letter format works, nor to correctly use more than one multisyllable word.

#1: Threatens homosexuals with murder for being homosexual.

#2: Takes a false "more in sadness than in anger" tone.

The first one virtually guarantees it's a Christian, because only Christians do that in the USA. The second cinches the deal absolutely.

What a douchebag. Though it is worth pointing out that while such violent homophobic sentiment is often tied to radical religious attitudes, there wasn't anything in that letter indicating a specifically Christian (or religious in general) motivation, just good ol' hatred & bigotry.

I hope those bars do a booming business in the next couple weeks just to spite the fucker. And that the patrons watch their drinks, just to be safe.

Sigh...

Many Christians neglect to mention that a lot of homosexuals are, or were, also Christian.

Many of us were driven from the faiths that so lovingly* were home, foundation and community for us in our youths and early years when we came out of the closet. As if we were lepers.

Yeah, I hear you on that. My parents' Congregational church is supposedly open and affirming, but it seems to be a theory more than a practice.

That's just... so fucked up...
I mean- the letter is written clearly and concisely, which indicates this guy has SOME brains/education, at least. It also frightens me that he is more likely to be deadly serious about it. And yet- if that's actually his goal- why warn them? Why not do it and then take credit/proclaim his position afterwards?
I hope they catch him and can get some real answers out of him.

And am I a bad person for noticing the warning sign had at least two spelling errors and as many grammatical mistakes?

Just a guess - the logic is probably along the lines of "why simply kill them, when you can terrorize their community for a while first?" It's a power thing - the guy's probably *hoping* to scare gays and make them feel frightened and insecure in the face of straight threats.

EDITED for coherency. *facepalm*

Why warn them? Because it's terrorism, but they're terrorists nobody will ever make a task force against.

Mea culpa if this turns out to be genuine, but my theory is that this is some passive-aggressive douchenozzle who's feeling ostracized by the gay community, or at least the portions of it that go to Capitol Hill bars.

...possibly I have lived in Seattle too long.

Seeing as homosexuals are human, and humans can build drama out of nothing more than a couple of sticks and some mud, I can totally believe it. Consider, for example, the things that teenagers manage to concoct drama out of. Now apply the adults full creativity to the task...

How can people hate others so much for simply existing?
