Oh, that poor guy. I mean, couldn't Microsoft have put at least one desirable feature in the product so that he'd have something to look forward to talking about?

...I like how he can't even really be bothered to spin it or anything. He knows it's a piece of crap and some clueless person will use it anyway because it comes with their phone.

Question: Why did you put in security to stop people from copying music?
Answer: It's not possible to copy music anyway. "We don't have that functionality available."

If it's not possible, then why do you need security to stop people from doing it?

Well, let's be fair to the poor sod.

He's selling shit.

Seriously, someone's handed him a great big stinking pile of horse shit and said "make this sound good." And worse, he has an interviewer that actually knows what he's talking about.

He has 2 choices: Outright lie or basically admit that the shit is, well, shit.

"Hey, you wanna buy some shit?"
"Well, I'd never thought about it really. Where'd you get the shit?"
"Well, we brought it back from Cambodia in a guitar, man, and we, um, made brownies out of some of it, and gave some away as a wedding present, and we're selling the rest, man."
"Hmm... sounds like some sort of a religious cult. How much is the shit?"
"Well, I'll let you have two ounces for ninety dollars, man."
"Must be good shit!"
"Yeah, it is, man. Think you want some papers with that?"
"Yes, better let me have a roll or two, will you?"

So, basically, he's saying their customer is the idiots who use MSN because it's the only thing they know how to use, and they don't know any better. And they're not bothering to try and attract new customers. EXCELLENT business model, dude.

When I interviewed for a Microsoft software position on a whim 2 years ago, one of the questions consisted of asking you how you would make it so that music and software was completely locked down and uncopy-able. And the gist of the interview was that the copyright and clients to microsoft are always more important than the users and the users can go fuck themselves.

Needless to say, the rest of the interview didn't go well once I started mocking him with how much more superior Linux was and then right after the interview, I went out and bought an ipod.
