The local petstore has several tortoises that they display during winter (they live on a farm during the summer, and the petstore sells the babies. It seems like every time I go into the store, the tortoises are going at it. You can hear it all over the store. Limits the times I go there.
i remember watching two giant land tortoises going at it at the miami zoo. the male was eating leaves calmly, then a female was released into the area, and the male stopped DEAD, hurried over to her, and mounted her immediately, leaves falling out of his mouth.
he made these gutteral, growling, moaning noises. it was SO LOUD!!!
Reminds me of highschool bio. There was a tank of three turtles at the front of the class, to the right of the board. Two of them would be bangin' all class, every class. Gave you something to watch during the boring classes.
