What is a “Sonic cannon duck”? It sounds like some sort of advanced waterfowl weapon.

You need to "duck" because it has a sonic cannon.

A panda walks into a cafe, orders a plate of bamboo. After he finishes his meal, he pulls out a semi-auto and massacres the place, before walking out the way he came in...

I'm sure you know the rest.

Was "Terror from the Deep" basically just the original X-com with different sprites and an underwater theme?

Exactly. The game was a reskin of the original, right down to equipment, monsters, and even the scientific research tree.

Wait, no. The laser weapon equivalents needed AMMO. Groundbreaking!

Glad I never bothered with it then. Loved X-com, still have the game on my hard drive, but never much saw the point of Terror from the Deep.

The maps were a lot bigger, there were a bunch of balance tweaks with things like now it being possible to blow through the walls of spaceships, and there were some interface changes, but yeah, it was the same engine and largely the same gameplay.

Just a *shitload* harder.

Almost. The maps were immensely larger, there were *shitloads* more places to hide on them, the enemies were tougher, the weapons were worse, and, in general, the entire game was re-tweaked to be a hell of a lot harder, because the first game was so easy it was a joke.

There were also some nice interface improvements - but they really didn't make up for the bugs that were added in the reasearch tree and the sheer nastiness factor of a lot of the levels.

Wow, I so did not read that word as 'duck' the first time around.
