They'd have had an interesting time with me, then. I don't normally answer the door if I'm home alone, so if they DID try to break in, they'd be in for a shock to discover someone was home. I mean, how do they know the home is empty just because someone didn't answer the door? They could've been in the shower or on the toilet.
We *NEVER* answer the door unless we are already expecting company. Not dodging anyone or anything like that - we just think it's rude to "just show up", so we will not acknowledge bad behavior from anyone. (Besides, most of the time, it's a solicitor anyway.) Same thing with phone calls - if we don't know the number, we ain't answering. If it's important enough, the caller will leave a voice mail.
