The paraphernalia laws confound me. Why is it a misdemeanor to own a digital kitchen scale, even if you are found with pot in your possession? Maybe you're serious about cooking. Maybe your wife is on Weight Watchers.

And as far as bongs... well, I can see the point there, but my parents brought home a "water pipe" from Egypt for it's gold-plated touristy crap value. And pipes... well, I don't see why crack-smokers don't get a nice walnut pipe and keep a pouch of loose tobacco on hand at all times. Cops pull you over, you tamp some tobacco, you're an eccentricity, but you're golden.

Anyways, marijuana is a controlled substance. Crack cocaine is a controlled substance. Scales, glassware, and pipes should not be illegal to own.

Same with Seattle. Walk into the one remaining head shop in the area (in the Pike Place Market) and ask for a "bong," you will be asked to leave. Forcefully. As in they will call the police if you remain.

Last I checked, some shops were selling water bongs listed as "paper weights."

I've seen metal ones too. I always wondered why no one used a good wood pipe. How hot are we talking about? like light-it-with-magnesium hot? Because if not, you could line the inside of a wood pipe with some sort of crap metal - it would kill pipe-tobacco enthusiasts, but it might do the trick. Or whittle a wood pipe to fit around a glass pipe.

Truthfully, I just want to see more wooden pipes out there, even if they have to be in the hands of crack addicts.

About 15 years ago I used to share a flat with a guy who grew cannabis in the cupboard. He used to order seeds from a company who claimed that they were selling them as fish bait, but would also (as a completely unrelated side-business) sell hydroponic gear, fertiliser and the likes.
