Are those puppies, or mouse fuzzies? If those are puppies, they're pretty fetal, aren't they? Maybe I'm mistaken. It *does* happen.
It's interesting how the luciferase looks to be expressed just in the bones. Actually, that picture is looking weirder and weirder. Should their skin be so translucent that you can see through to just the bones like that? Am I missing something? Am I thinking too hard about this? I have to stop now, I'm totally creeped out.
Probably pups, as in mouse pups, not dog pups. Those sure look like mice to me. It could be part of this research project here (link).
Mouse pups: hairless and eyes closed, they are called pinkies. No longer hairless but eyes still closed or half open they are called fuzzies. Starting to run around they are called popcorn mice, they often 'pop' -- leap straight up into the air, like popcorn. Then they're just mice. All these terms are key in maintaining consistency when feeding captive reptiles and amphibians. We also subdivide the categories, as in small pinkies and large pinkies, when necessary.
