The Governor General.

But it sounds better to say "Head Of State" than "Head Of State's Official Representative Who Is In All Ways The Head Of State While The Head Of State Is Not Here"

Saw that on twitter.

If the moose don't get ya, Michaelle Jean will eat your heart raw. And then feed you to the beavers.

She said it was delicious. I LOLed. The European Union was too flummoxed to piece together a coherent reply.

The environmentalist response to pisses me off; they're clearly spin-doctoring a cultural ritual into an endorsement of commercial seal hunting. Which makes it racist. So much for the moral high ground.

Oh, wait. I guess rational thought is required to recognize how utterly ridiculous their actios are, and special interest groups and rational thought hardly go hand in hand.

Tradition is never a good reason to do something.

I could argue that, but that's not the point either.

There is no connection whatsoever between "I ate an animal" and "I think people should kill these animals en masse for their fur." Claiming otherwise is obviously ridiculous.

Yeah I'm sure she did it just for the hell of it and no connection was implied to the overhunting of the seals which Canada refuses to stop or even noticably feel bad about. Japan's not the only bunch of assholes when it comes to irresponsible hunting.

What overhunting? Harp seal populations are stable, and they are listed as a least concern species. Hunting quotas are imposed to ensure they stay that way. In comparison, 70% of fish species are either currently being overfished or are recovering from overfishing. So your comparison is at best misinformed.

The outrage regarding seal hunts has nothing to do with overhunting. It stems from two things:
1) Monstrous skinning practices which are now outright illegal.
2) "Save the cute things" environmentalism.

Well stated. You can add to that the fact that these seals haven't been factory farmed in horrendous conditions and fed hormones, antibiotics and milk formula while being raised tethered to a plastic doghouse in conditions of social deprivation. They've had natural maternal care in a clean environment that their mothers chose for them.
