THIS! This is what I've been looking for! I'm sending this to my brother (age 9) right away! Thank you!

He's been wanting to make his own video games ever since he found out that the Jessie and James versions of Pokemon were in fact made by fans rather than the company.
Jake: "You mean I could make a pokemon game?"
Me: "Well... ostensibly. It's a lot of work, and I'm not even sure what program language it would use. You'd have to start with something smaller til you knew what you were doing."
Jake: *blank look*
Me: "Tell you what. I'll look for a good starter game-making app for you."
Jake: *glee*

Crap. Now I want kids so that I can teach them how to use this.

Y'know, the last code I ever wrote was in FORTRAN... and object-oriented code has entirely evaded my attempts to self-teach, as I just don't seem to be able to latch onto the basic concepts. Maybe I should be trying Scratch out, myself...

-- Steve loves this stuff in general; teaching kids how to organise their thinking into discrete patterns and analyse it rationally is probably the greatest lesson that can be taught.
