Depends on the journal style. In mine for instance, this is notably bigger than the width of my friends page field, but then I also have it set to put wider-than-normal pictures in a frame with a scrollbar thingy, so it luckily doesn't screw up my whole page.
The photography looks too slick to me to be a NASA publicity photo. I'd guess it's from a film.
... and I've just noticed her hair. She's not wearing one of those caps that astronauts or cosmonauts wear under their helmets, and she looks made-up, so I'm definitely going with a film.
