Tobias Buckell had a medical emergency at Worldcon and was forced to venture into "the blighted hellscape of socialised medicine"

As Doctor Chad puts it: "Luckily, the impersonal bureaucrats of the Quebecois Death Board were in a good mood, and all he got was quality medical care followed by a single bill, rather than mandatory euthanasia."

Had Stephen Hawking come before the panel, the outcome might have been different.

Teehee. Like David Sedaris says (I'm paraphrasing here) in "Me Talk Pretty One Day": The ease and affordability of the French Healthcare system allowed him to finally become a hypochondriac.

I long for the day when I, too, can go to the doctor when something hurts, even if it's probably just some bad fish or a twisted ankle.

man, when I was in college, I'd go to the doctor to get an extension on my essays. No word of a lie.

"uh, I had those panic attacks again last night so I didn't get this done, can you write my prof a note? *doe eyes*"

It still confuses the hell out of me that you can't. I mean, I *know* you can't. I just don't, you know, internalize it.

oh, I can. But it costs me $30 every time I visit my family physician and $60 every time I visit any specialist. Yay!

Yay for stimulating people into putting off doctor's visits.

Preventive care is, after all, much overrated.
