Aw, that makes me kind of sad that it's not completely true. Still pretty funny, though.

I hate to even ask, but just how goddamn long is it going to take for the Liberals to get back into power?

I came here to ask that very question.

This "interim" keeps getting longer and longer...

They're going to be "interim placeholder" until the day that the idea of them getting a majority *doesn't* scare the shit out of 95% of the country.

The fact that the only sane people selected Michael "Bush Junior" Ignatieff as their representative has simply delayed the process of the only sane people coming back into power. In the mean time, Harper is basically Obama except not groundbreaking and new, Ignatieff is basically Harper (so nobody wants him), and the Interim Placeholder Government keep getting hammered every time they even *think* about trying to get what they want instead of what they can trade for.

Fundamentally, the CPC are a white-supremacist party whose membership and long-term goals mirror the BNP in the UK and the Republicans in the USA. Stephen Harper's just been better at controlling his backbenchers and keeping them from saying *anything*, ever, to anyone - and it keeps slipping, and he keeps getting stabbed by his own party when he tries to tell the country that they aren't REALLY out to duplicate the disastrous idiocy of the USA, despite having exactly that as a plank in their platform. And every time they try to implement that platform, the rest of the country steps up and says "whoa, whoa, you're the PLACEHOLDER so we can PUNISH the real government for being dicks. Don't try to step above that, we will cut you."

It's a fairly decent situation, all around.

Assuming, of course, that Iqaluit is in the spell-checker...

-- Steve notes that we Anglophones are similarly one mistaken letter away from wearing a "crap" on our heads.

"Spellchecking" != "run through an automated spellchecker"

If it's the capitol of one of their provinces, one would hope they had already added it to their spell checkers.

Nunavut / Iqualuit...

Not in my dictionary... actually.. both in my Word (2003) is "accurate" and not red lined or requiring spell check.

though, Google (which does have a better Dictionary) shows "Iqualuit" as wrong...

i bet Nunavut isn't in the latest Word "default" dictionary...

So Technology failed.... not the speller.

If you think "spellchecking" means "run through an automatic spellchecker", you're an idiot. You couldn't pass a first-year undergraduate language course. You would fail, and you would deserve to fail, for being grossly incompetent.

If you work for *the office of the Prime Minister* and you don't know how to spell the name of the capital city of one of the 13 provinces and territories, you're so incompetent that you make the person who thinks a spellchecker is good enough look like a genius.

The Harper government may be trying to avoid wiping other people's bottoms (viz: no Welcome Back Omar Khadr and no more 'child soldiers')but that will not stop me from farting in its general direction.
