Humanity doomed.

FTFA:
"Battleship" is the latest in Universal's strong push toward branded entertainment films, and Hasbro has fast become an increasingly important cog in that campaign.

"This is a powerful brand, and in an era where brands have become the new stars, 'Battleship' is a big opportunity," said U Pictures chairmen Marc Shmuger and David Linde.

Aside from "Battleship" and "Stretch Armstrong," U is separately developing "Clue" with Gore Verbinski, "Monopoly" with Ridley Scott, "Candyland" with director Kevin Lima, and "Ouija" with Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes.
DOOMED.

I know that and you know that, but the reality is that the movie did mediocre at the box office, and that's being nice.

That happens a lot to decent movies that earn cult status later. But... how do you get Tim Curry into a Battleship movie?

and yet it was so brilliant! I think a clue movie could work again. it was a farce and I loved it.

But it worked because it had a genre to parody. I guess battleship can parody ocean-going war movies, but how many are there?

Maybe stretch Armstrong can be a wrestling parody, but take note of how well nacho libre did that.

I'd love to see a horror comedy for candyland. but I shudder to think about Ouija. I'm hoping that the earth explodes within the first few minutes.

Given that Michael Bay's production company is doing Ouija, you may only be off by a minute or two.

If they want to make a Battleship movie, can't they just, um, make a WWII navy movie? And Stretch Armstrong? Seriously? The toy whose primary attraction was that maybe, if you pulled hard enough, you could get the goo inside to come out?

As for the rest:

Clue already has a movie. An awesome movie.

I suspect Scott will make Monopoly a dystopia. Not hard.

Candyland could make a really trippy movie in the right hands. Game is freakin' weird.

I don't know how Bay is planning to work enough explosions into a movie about a slumber party game. And I'm sure there are already about a million crappy horror movies that use ouija boards as plot devices.

It's not like it's that hard. Everyone has a price. What I don't get is how there marketing and idea people manage to convince the moneied people these are sound investments. But, yeah, big name movie producers have to pay child support, divorce settlements, and purchase another mansion somewhere, too.

Anyhow, resent with the link, although I don't know if it's the type of thing you'd want to use or not.

... Hollywood completely out of ideas.

Is it too terribly hard for these people to go to a library, check out a book, and then try to find an author who wants a gob of money?

I mean if you're going to make a shitty movie anyway let's at least start with something that thinly resembles content.

*argh*
*thrash*
*sigh*

(And Clue is a very funny movie, why must they remake the stuff I like and make it suck ass?)
