No, I didn't see a compelling reason to switch to Firefox from IE because there really is nothing wrong with IE that you can't fix with settings.

And then the wonders of tabbed browsing became apparent. There's still nothing *wrong* with IE once you neuter the settings, but Firefox trades a small speed penalty for tabs, and I'm okay with that trade. I like tabs.

I'm still having trouble seeing this speed difference. I think you need to sit down and show me sometime.

I don't see it either, on my new machine. On my old machine (PIII 500MHz), it was about a 2-second difference in startup times.

Ah. So it's a startup only issue?

Starting up Firefox, and any time Firefox needs to load something like Java, there was a lag. My new machine cuts the lag own to barely noticable levels, but it's still there, because Firefox takes longer than IE to start up and longer than IE to load extra issues.

Which is because firefox isn't built into the kernal.

Yes.

This does not change the fact that Firefox is noticeably slower because of this.

Firefox also can't handle a lot of the corporate distributed application things that IE can. This is because IE can, with the right settings, run literally anything. This is both a plus and a minus, for obvious reasons.
