When I had it, it was the sickest I've ever felt. Hallucinations, blackouts, fever was in the 102 range even with absurd amounts of ibuprofen. Very, very not good.
With the confirmed death toll a little over 6000 so far, it's not exactly a trivial thing.
I got the local version (Melbourne, Australia) - kinda crappy low grade flu for most of a week. BUT my immune system has been in the toilet for the last 4 months since, so I think it is having a lingering effect.
It's not certain that's what I had, but it's increasingly likely.
Executive summary; get the damned shot.
Body: everybody talks about the week where you're basically useless; they're right. I didn't dare leave my apartment for the first four days, only plodding out on day 4 because I needed groceries and I paid for that on days 5 and 6. What they don't talk about is the two weeks after that, where you're still basically sick and paying off the monstrous sleep debt you rack up because you were coughing and peeing too much at night to get rested. Indeed, every now and then I'm still clearing out my chest and sinuses.
Sounds good in theory, but from the sounds of it, they're not even making enough yet for the "at risk" people to finish getting shotted up so.. meh. :/ Doesn't sound like it's much of an option.
Yeah, that was the worst bit. I wasn't actually that SICK--I've had regular flu that knocked me down into the "Wow, if I wasn't in my prime, this thing could kill me!" range, and this was nothing like that bad--but god, it LINGERED. The exhaustion and the mild cough stuck around for at least a week and a half.
