"Mauritian". Pronounced "MORE-EE-SHUN". And yet, in my head, it keeps coming out as "mow-ee-shen" or "moe-WEE-SHUN" - like Elmer Fudd or Lawwy Kwipke was saying it.

I'm *sure* this is because I've heard somebody with that hyper-exaggerated R-is-W accent saying the word, repeatedly, but I can't find Kripke doing it and I can't imagine Fudd doing it, and so it's driving me nuts - WHERE did I pick this up?

These are the things that occupy my days.

I think the créole spoken in Mauritius does that, as does the one in nearby Réunion. So a lot of native Mauritians would pronounce it that way.

"John, you're not wrong, even though you think you are" is not something I hear very often!

The chap I knew from Mauritias didn't object to it being pronounced "MOAR-ish-ian". Unfortunately can't ask him as he was accidentally deported.

First: I don't sort Skittles. I eat 'em 1-2 at a time.

Second: I have eaten all the Nerds, which I *do* sort because they're nasty when mixed.

I just remembered some odd candy sorting behaviour. The rest was straight up lazy :)

"Kenya" is named after Jomo Kenyatta.
"United States Of America" is named after Amerigo Vespucci.

Naming entire countries after single people is not all that uncommon.

None of them match The Republic Of Dave for sheer cool factor, though.
