I really hate the fact that I don't speak Russian, sometimes. And at the same time, it doesn't happen often enough that I really want to go through the work of learning the language - I'd rather practice my rusty-but-often-serviceable German and get good at THAT rather than start over with Russian.

Are you just hoping they'll be interesting, or do you have some idea of what they're about?

It's the one place where there are regular conversations I don't understand. And sometimes I'm sure they're talking about the source of an image I'd like to know more about.

It's a shame that the Germans never managed to produce a watchable sitcom or somesuch.
We Austrians managed, but you'd have about zero chance at understanding our dialect :/

I very much liked Lexx (the original couple episodes, featuring Eva Habermann, not the later series!) when it first aired. But I don't think of it as German, it feels .. Canadian.

associating the symbols with sound as you scan the text makes pattern recognition easier. it can be a pretty passive way to start building vocabulary.
