Heh.

I generally check this sort of thing. It's interesting. That's the King James. Here's the Oxford:

"Listen, Israel, to this word that the LORD has spoken against you:
Do not fall into the ways of the nations,
do not be awed by signs in the heavens;
it is the nations who go in awe of these.
For the carved images of the nations are a sham,
they are nothing but timber cut from the forest,
worked with his chisel by a craftsman;
he adorns it with silver and gold,
fastening them on with hammer and nails
so that they do not fall apart."

Here's the Catholic Study Bible:

"Hear the word which the LORD speaks to you, O house of Israel. Thus says the LORD:
Learn not the customs of the nations, and have no fear of the signs of the heavens,
though the nations fear them.
For the cult idols of the nations are nothing, wood cut from the forest,
Wrought by craftsmen with the adze,
adorned with silver and gold.
With nails and hammers they are fastened,
that they may not totter."

It's worthwhile to continue-- I'll use the Oxford since I like that one better:

"They can no more speak than a scarecrow in a plot of cucumbers;
they must be carried, for they
cannot walk.
Do not be afraid of them: they can
do no harm,
and they have no power to do good."

So I hope you have plenty of nails, that your gold-laden forest-borne happy stick doesn't totter, and that you have a happy holiday.
