I come home and I can hear the dog crying from the far side of the door. Pathetic, sad little whimpers, whines, yips, all kinds of sounds that an unhappy dog in pain makes.

I rush in. Dog stops crying, looks at me, ears perk up, tail starts wagging. I look at her, crack up, and grab the camera.

This is what I see:

Yes, she HAS bent all the bars on the crate so she can stuff her head through.

And yes, that IS a padlock on the crate - intended to keep her from opening the door while we're gone.

Silly puppy.

Lemmee guess, she can't get her head BACK through the bars she bent out of whack, right? So she couldn't get to her water or anything, and had to just sit there an wait till you got home? Goofy pup... (And OF COURSE she won't learn from this, not to do it again!)

Of course she couldn't get back INTO the crate.

She'd only been there for ~20 minutes, because I'd left for only that long that time.

But yes. Goofy as hell.

I have more padlocks, I can keep her from pushing through THAT PART again.

"Oh, she's a sneaky one... Always testing different parts of the fence, never hitting the same one twice."...

Is she part velociraptor, do you think?

So, how long until she just disassembles the crate entirely, like Jack did with his?

Silly Piper!

Hopefully not until she learns not to EAT OUR TOOTHBRUSHES.

(Seriously. She'll eat the cat litter if the box is dirty, so we keep it clean. She'll chew stuffed toys she thinks MIGHT be hers, so we make those perfectly clear. But toothbrushes, she loves, no matter WHAT we do.)

Any poo, really.

They're platic, bristly, and smell of humans and toothpaste. And she see *us* put them in our mouths.

Please please go to the hardware store and get some heavy duty snap hooks to hold the crate together, so that if there is a REAL emergency, someone doesn't have to go find the bolt cutters to rescue the dog?

I bet you they're cheaper than padlocks too.

If there's an emergency, the front *and back* sides of the crate can be pulled off without removing the padlock. You just have to unhoiok the top by pulling it *in*, which is a trick the Dog can't manage.

Yes, but those are harder to remove every day when I need to be able to open the door without taking a panel off.

It makes me feel better to know that I'm not the only person who points and laughs at my dog when she does something incredibly dumb.

Dumb, and cute. So very cute.
