How the hell does that adaptation actually come about? I mean, was there a lizard with a mutation that caused his tongue to just -- fly out of his mouth?
Lizards with sticky tongues catch more food, and prosper.
Now that they have sticky tongues, they need their jaws less - so a LONGER tongue is an advantage. And then a faster tongue. And then a longer, faster tongue. Eventually, you get this.
*You* can stick your tongue out pretty quickly and accurately. If that was how humans caught food, you want to bet we'd have longer ones?
