The kid got pulled out of school, the parents had to come meet the principal, and the kid got told not to bring it back, on threat of suspension. In a meeting, with the principal, and his parents.
Overreaction *and* utter idiocy.
The lawsuit would pretty much by definition be small claims - time off work for both parents, harassment of the child, small punitive damage because the school is being stupid in a way that costs the family money and the child classroom time - but that doesn't mean it's not *the only way to get compensated for the money they lost because of the principal's stupidity*.
The article lays "look at what those filthy, incompetent educators did" on a little too thickly for me to accept that the facts written in it are anything close to reality.
this is merka. lawsuit idea *might* not be about compensation for lost wages, etc.
oh, and similar things go on all the time - just without the exciting journalism take. kids get pulled out of classes, principals demand parents attend a 'meeting' to 'discuss' and 'issue' regarding little johhny's 'behaviour'. and things occasionally get more retarded when the embarrassment sinks in ... i learned to back away slowly so as not to startle them ... [the ex took a different approach]

Date: 2010-02-04 10:35 pm (UTC)Another student tells a teacher, "Boy has a toy gun."
Teacher, without seeing it, notifies principal.
Principal, without seeing it, tells boy not to bring toy guns to school.
Overreaction? Yes. Utter idiocy? No.
I also deeply question the idea that a 2-inch toy gun is the boy's favorite toy. See how the reporter worked in 'child of a cop' to go with it?
The reporter also states in all seriousness that the mother is considering a lawsuit, which is so utterly laughably stupid I don't have words.
Apart from 'utterly laughably stupid', I suppose.
This is a mountain being made out of a molehill with plenty of sheer idiocy on both sides.
