Face within striking distance of Burm = less than smart. At least he's only waving a courgette at it - if it was a sausage or something, it'd have him.
When it's active enough to be curious about what he's waving around like that? Hm. Yeah.
"Normally that's a rabbit. I wonder if that's a rabbit. I should kill it and find out if it's a rabbit." is the kind of thought process I ascribe to snakes.
Beautiful animals, but not intellectual and they have distinct problems telling when the rabbit ends and the human/tree/furniture/random-other-object begins. . .
I had a friend who had a big python of some kind - he really only would go that near it when it had just been fed or during mid-winter hibernation.
It depends entirely on the snake. I miss my baby who was 12'+ long and over 25 pounds the last time I saw her.
She knew the difference between people & food, frequently had the run of the house, and slept with me quite often. She was also insanely curious, and loved to climb things (the shower rod, the bookshelves, the closet).
The snake in the picture is looking at his owner/the zuccini; that is a totally different stance than preparing to strike.
I should note: my ex insisted on keeping her, then managed to let her die, probably by forgetting to feed her for months or not keeping her in fresh water.
