BNP member running for London Assembly in 2008:
Any bets on what you find when you look into *his* past?
(EDIT: Article is from 2008. BNP dude in question has been sacked, selected as BNP posterboy.)
"I've never understood why so many men have allowed themselves to be brainwashed by the feminazi myth machine into believing that rape is such a serious crime ... Rape is simply sex. Women enjoy sex, so rape cannot be such a terrible physical ordeal. For bonus points, he was asked about the quotes, and had this to say:
"To suggest that rape, when conducted without violence, is a serious crime is like suggesting that forcefeeding a woman chocolate cake is a heinous offence. A woman would be more inconvenienced by having her handbag snatched.
"The demonisation of rape is all part of the feminazi desire to obtain power and mastery over men. Men who go along with the rape myth are either morons or traitors."
"I was trying to make the point that there are two kinds of rape," he said. "There is stranger rape and there is so-called rape by somebody the woman knows"So.
Any bets on what you find when you look into *his* past?

Date: 2010-03-02 11:23 pm (UTC)The poll is designed to inflate figures in order to get publicity for the problem (which is there).
If you get into bed with someone and then change your mind, he's an asshole if he rapes you and should be convicted. But given there are a large number of assholes out there, doing this isn't the best idea in the world, which is what the poll shows.
The poll does not say "rapists should get off if the woman did this" it says "putting yourself into a dangerous position with somoene you don't know isn't a good idea".
That isn't absolving the rapist of anything, at all. But the more media coverage this sort of dodgy poll gets, the harder it is to get convictions in the case of such rapes, because the coverage implies it is what is being said, which, if you look at the source data, isn't true.
I'm not going anywhere other than continuing to be involved in campaigns to address this problem, and therefore caring muchly about innaccurate, dodgy attitude surveys that aren't actually helping because the questions demonstrate either poorly thought through methodology or a deliberate attempt to inflate figures in order to gain publicity for a specific cause (in this case a London based shelter).
