The "Lost Tribe Of Israel", found!

And, unlike the similar claim by the Mormons, this particular claim
A) wasn't made up out of whole cloth by a professional conman.
and
B) is *supported*, not absolutely contradicted, by basic scientific investigation!

I loved that story - I've heard of The Lost Tribes Of Israel on numerous occasions, I wasn't expecting some version of that to turn up in Zimbabwe!

I like how they have an Ark, but it's not as old as should be because they tend to use them in battles and they explode.

This..

As I recall, there's a few (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost_Tribes_of_Israel). Some have good genetic evidence, too.

I've got no problem with them being one of the lost tribes or any of that... What I have a problem with is the complete twisting of the Ark of the Covenant from a box made to carry the stone tablets of original Law, into a ... DRUM? How the h*ll does that even WORK? Drums don't work as well if they have something inside, they certainly won't "Thunder" with something in there.
Further, a drum is MADE to be struck with something, absolutely contradictory to the instruction that say no-one was EVER TO TOUCH IT after it was built and consecrated, and the incident when the oxen stumbled, and a man (Whose name I've forgotten,) reached out to steady it, and was instantly fried where he stood? Yeah- that just screams "Drum" to me... not.

Sorry- I think the Prof is twisting things to suit himself. He doesn't think it's enough to have found this incredible bunch of folks...

I think it's a context/translation thing. The ark is a hollow container roughly the size of a drum.

I was going to say that they didn't use it as a drum, but I'm curious as to how they did use it. Wear thick gloves and run at people with it? What the hell made it explode?

Hmmm, yes - translation could certainly have messed the poor Prof up. Especially given how many times the professor's primary source material (The Bible,) has been "edited"?

Yeah, very good question- what would make a DRUM, - explode?

Given that they're doing Y chromosome testing, the women perforce would not test positive for Jewish DNA...

And what, exactly, is "jewish" DNA? Even if there were such a thing (there's not,) if they are the daughters of someone who is a descendent of the original jews, they would have it, wouldn't they? Otherwise women wouldn't be able to be "jewish", whatever you may think that means.

Amazing I have to explain this...

In this particular case, it means that their male heritage can be traced back to Semitic roots. It was, you know, explained in the Wikipedia page.

No, you trace it to someone, not to a religion and certainly not to a place. There is no such thing as "semitic" traits - don't try to cover for the stupidity of the journalists.
