We encountered one a few years back on a walk around some of our local bushland. We were walking along, and then one of us said "You know, that looks a bit like a frogmouth." And we took a few steps closer, and one eye flickered open and shut, and the 'stump' settled into a more stump-like pose. And we looked at each other, and took another few steps, and the eye flickered, and the pose got more refined... and we found it harder and harder to keep from laughing...
Amazing camouflage - if they could remember to stop fixing it.
