The Catholics aren't the only group being sued for covering up child abuse.

(Although, unlike the Catholics, the Mormons and the Boy Scouts haven't yet produced documentary evidence that their Supreme Perfect Leader is directly and personally involved. Give it time, though.)

Ten bucks says the phrasing was utterly deliberate.

"The Portland case centers on whether the Boy Scouts of America did enough to protect boys from Dykes."

My husband's family moved to Utah when he was 8 years old. They are not Mormon, so he wasn't allowed to join the Boy Scouts.

Man, this sucks. Particularly because--while I've got no great love of the Boy Scouts as an organization, I think their politics suck--individual scout leaders I know would, for the most part, gnaw their own arm off before covering up anything like this.

Hell, when my boyfriend was a troop leader only a few years ago, they had serious "This is what to look for, if you have even the faintest suspicion somebody's being abused, here is how you fix it," and adults couldn't even be alone with kids--you needed two adults present at all times because they were SO paranoid about anything like that going down.

He quit eventually, and speaks darkly of the Mormon takeover of scouting, but if they're covering up child abuse now...jesus christ.
