Anyone claiming that Ann Coulter cancelled her talk at UofO due to threats of violence is full of shit.

Given my past experiences with "U Of Zero", they probably refused to pay her promised-and-in-writing settled-well-in-advance rate, then insisted that they needed to deduct taxes as if she was a full-time employee and needed to pay the tax on a full year of daily lectures in advance, and then told her that there was a "difference of opinion" about their obligation to pay her at all according to the contract they'd signed. Regardless, if you believe her claims that the "talk" was cancelled due to THEM DAMN LIBRULS, you're stupid.

EDIT: Gee, Coulter *lying*? NO!

The most likely theory I've heard is that she canceled the talk so that she'd get headlines and the ability to feel persecuted.

I think my theory - that they refused to *pay her* - is much more likely, given that they spend a good 3 months refusing to pay me for contracted work.

Bet you that we'd be hearing about that, though, if it were the case.

(IME, invoices are usually submitted and checks are usually cut *after* presentations.)

How'd they manage to scrape together that many "Ann Coulter supporters" in Canada?

Ann Coulter should have been - and was - shut down because she's a hateful purveyor of gross bigotry and in now way does anyone have to give her a platform for that filth. Nor does her "free speech" grant her the right to ana udience or immuntiy to the consequences of her venom

Either it was a cynical political ploy so she could play victim, or she is a coward who lacks the courage of her convictions. I mean, she ran from first-year poli-sci students. If you can't argue those into the ground then what kind of political commentator are you?

That said, I went to UoO and, man, the administrators get no pity from me. I really can't lose with this news story - either they fry on the front page, or Coulter does, and I enjoy a sweet rush of schatenfreude in both cases.
