Ah! That's why 600 looks teeny to you. That's massive resolution for such a tiny screen. I can't bear to look at websites at that level of resolution, because the font is well-nigh unreadable. (My 1280 monitor is a 20" widescreen, by the way; at home, I still use an ancient laptop that runs at miniscule res *g*)
Lowering your resolution because the font is too small is a great way of killing your eyes. Increase the resolution and increase your browser's and your OS's font size.
