Gee, in a Catholic country, child rape is okay, but a 10-year-old getting an abortion after being raped is totally a capital crime. Right, gotcha, Catholic values in full display.

Remember, rape a child, get unlimited free relocations, forever, courtesy of the Catholic Church. Attempt to help a rape victim, get excommunicated.

I read this earlier. Further proof that the far right are not really human. I'm starting to think they're robots who can't spell. Or, who have been programmed to spell poorly and use faulty logic to fool real humans into believing their rouse.

they're human all right.

they just confuse control for compassion, hate for love ... you know, all the usual self-denial justifications for being completely hypocritical.

but, but, children are the sign of god's love for us ... so we must have more of them.

because *he* can't hate us, can *he*. right. after all the 'good works' we do in *his* name. right?

In Mexico, it's not just a religious thing, but a cultural one. My brother's wife is from Mexico (and no, he didn't marry her so she could get a green card!), as is her family, and they are all very, Very, VERY old school Catholic. The fact that she had her tubes tied after the second baby, which both children were born via extremely difficult c-sections, makes her "Americanized", aka a bad mother and bad Catholic by their standards. Even the fact my brother and her waited a few years between kids is shocking enough, because all forms of birth control are EviL, doncha know! It's getting in the way of God's Plan.

God's Plan, you see, does not consider any means of how that baby (NOT a fetus, mind you!) got into that belly as relevant, nor does it care. The Plan is that the baby is born. Period. It doesn't matter the mother is a 10yo rape victim, because God Has A Plan. It doesn't matter that the baby will most likely have birth defects, because God Has A Plan. It also doesn't matter that the rapist was someone who was supposed to be caring for the girl, because God Has A Plan. We, as mere mortals, are not to dare question Divine Authority you see, because if we do, we are going to Hell!

And yes, that's reason #1,543,089 why I gave up Catholicism. Too much hypocrisy. Too much guilt tripping. Too much blind faith. Too much dogma. Too many double standards. But damnit if I don't love the churches and their rituals. One has to admit they are beautiful.

I'm sure she wonders why we only have our one son, who's now an adult.

I'm sure she wonders why we only have our one son, who's now an adult. After all, my brother's wife HAD to have her children, even at the risk of her own life. How could I possibly CHOOSE to only have one? And, even though it wasn't exactly a choice, why didn't I piss away thousands of dollars to get pregnant. That's my job, doncha know! :(

Having children is considered a blessing, or so I was taught, but the right wing RC takes it a bit too far.

Actually we’re dealing with a society that is mostly poor and uneducated. Where I live (Quebec) we went through the same social/cultural/religious phase. Religious belief was sacrosanct and if anything caused controversy, it was considered totally normal to side with the Church and follow their doctrine, even if it was whacked and made no sense. Just go back 1 generation, having a child out of wedlock was a sin and mothers were forced to give them up for adoption. Children were taught in schools that if they didn’t say their morning prayers they would die… We came a long way since those days. Mexico is where we were at 50 years ago in terms of religious beliefs.

Hey, the rapist was arrested and is being prosecuted for the rape. You only get a free pass on raping children if you're actually an official of the Church, not just a patron.
