If you're an American who owns a 3G iPad, your private data has been exposed.

Gawker calls it "Apple's" security breach, but it's really AT&T's problem. And it's mostly "your private real email address and real name" that's been exposed.

Whoa, that doesn't sound like AT&T!

Yeah, I mean *only* the real name and email address? For AT&T, I'd expect credit card information and current GPS coordinates.

Cry me a fucking river.

There is information that I consider private, but any bloody information that other people need to contact me reliably is by very fucking definition not private. If you want to keep your bloody e-mail address private, then don't never give it to any corporate or cloudy guys at all.

well it's worth pointing out that Goatse Securities also has the ICC-IDs. And while nobody knows of any current known exploits regarding those, that doesn't necessarily mean they won't spend some time coming up with something now that they have, say, .mil addresses & the corresponding ICC-ID.

So, doubtful anything will come of it, but this kind of data is the sort of thing that can encourage people to make or find new holes that nobody bothered looking for before. After all, getting the ICC-ID is a hard enough trick you'd probably already have owned the system in question by the time you get it. (I'm guessing on that one...)

The funniest part about it is the "company" was Goatse Securities. Bwahahahahahahahaha! Goatse?! And nobody caught that?! Not even the kid in the mail room???

It's kind of like how everyone freaked out about the "bombs" in Boston that turned out to be a bird-flipping Mooninite Lite Brites haha.

Not only did they catch it, they remarked on it in the article.

I'm assuming they meant "nobody at AT&T", though how an automated script would know what Goatse is...

I really hope there are people out there right now Googling "Goatse". Although alas the original website has long since disappeared.
