Go to the original post. I found it amusing. Not quite screams of outrage, they being British and all. But strong murmurs of disagreement, I dare say.

I'd love to see something like this for pre-unification Germany.

Shame it's so incomplete. There's the whole Commonwealth just left entirely off. We need an exhaustive classification of Brits.

You want to call Aussies and Kiwis Brits, go right ahead. Just let me know first, so I can be a comfortable distance away from you.

If Elizabeth II is your head of state, you're a Brit. Goes for the Canucks too.

Does that mean that people in pre-independence America were Brits too?

Their head of state was George III, but yes, they were. Do you think that'd somehow be in question?

I'm pretty sure that if you said George Washington was British, a few people would disagree with you... they may be wrong, of course.

And I wouldn't walk up to an Australian, New Zealander or Canadian and declare him/her to be a Brit. Much less people from Jamaica, Barbados, the Bahamas, Grenada, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Belize, Antigua and Barbuda, and Saint Kitts and Nevis.

The nationality of the Founding Fathers isn't even an issue. They were British citizens living on British soil, frequently employed in the British local government or British army. The states were a collection of British colonies that successfully seceded. Post-1776 is a different matter, but as of like 1770? Brits, the lot of them.

And the latter has more to do with your personal skittishness than the truth of the matter.

This is a factually inaccurate statement.

Except that Queen Elizabeth II Of Canada is entirely and completely separate and not related to Queen Elizabeth II of England. They're not the same person, not in the same line of succession, and the Queen Of England has no authority of any sort in Canada or over Canadians.

They have the same NAME (and the same space-time coordinates) but they are NOT the same person.

I think that actually they are the same person, but said person has multiple independent titles and roles.

Elizabeth Windsor is both Queen Of England and Queen Of Canada.

The Queen Of England is *not* the Queen Of Canada. The two posts are separate and unrelated.

That doesn't change the fact that one person holds both titles. Therefore, the Queen of England is also the Queen of Canadia, eh.
