I had a pitbull pup gnaw off part of my toe under a table when i wasn't looking (I am a paraplegic and didn't feel it). Apparently she got started on a scab from a scuffed toe and didn't know when to stop.

As soon as i saw what she'd done i killed that puppy. Not because i was upset over the loss of toe meat, but because I wasn't at all comfortable with having a dog that liked the taste of human.

I referenced this incident in an Edible Dirt cartoon. Sorry, too late to look it up for the linkage, but the caption is "Enjoying that bone, eh boy?"

no problem. did you really kill the puppy though? i retold the tale to some friends and they were freaking out over it.

everyone focuses on the dog.

but the human is near too stupid to live. but for the dog eating his toe he'd have died of his own stupidity.

*sigh*

Hey, if losing a toe means he learned a valuable lesson, everyone wins.

perhaps. maybe for *everyone else* who might be given the push to go *do* something before this kind of thing happens to them.

but if it takes your dog chewing off your going-gangrenous toe to catch on that diabetes ought not be ignored - especially when your own brother died of diabetes-related complications ... you'd think *that* would get you in sooner ... but no, denial wins the day ... *headdesk*
