A guy I know has Beavis and Butthead for his GPS. They regularly give poor directions. ("Turn right here. No! Left! Left!" or "Turn left in 300... something. Miles.)
Most GPSen have a USB port. You plug it into your car's "DC output" (the lighter) for power while you're driving, but you can plug it right into your computer and work with it from there.
For mine (a Garmin), I go to their website and I can purchase map packs and add-ons and things, download 'em, and install 'em on the unit. And yes, most of them cost money.
So if the option did exist to have my unit speak like John Cleese or Brian Blessed, that's how I'd get it: Go to the website, buy the language pack, install on the GPS via USB.
The idea of having Brian Blessed or William Daniels reading directions to me is amusing, but I wonder how many distraction-releated accidents that'd cause...
-- Steve's still wrestling with the GPS receiver built into his new ultraportable computer, but looks forward to seeing how it works when it's fully up and running.
