Idiot Plots are never pretty. Idiot Plots that require viewers to accept the complete and utter incompetence of Sherlock Holmes, James Moriarty, AND Mycroft Holmes, all at once? Yeah, no. While writing "The Smartest Person In The Room" realistically is difficult, having them avoid REALLY basic mistakes would help.

Also: Worst Moriarty Ever. Sing-song falsetto, capering and prancing (literally), monologuing, while making really, really basic mistakes[1][2] ?

THAT'S your monster heel? THAT'S your menacing evil supergenius?

[1]: starting from "I am afraid Sherlock Holmes might be good enough to catch me. He has no idea I exist and has no clue that ANY of my previous or current crimes are happening. I will draw his attention to me deliberately, help him along at every step of the way, and then explain this to him!"
[2]: Moriarity was the SECOND-least competent person in the show. Sherlock was the least, Mycroft was the most but that's damning with faint praise - being the least worst in this case was mostly a matter of having the least screen time.

While I have a ton of love for the first 2 episodes of the show and haven't had a chance to see this particular episode, the common consensus of the Sherlock fans on my Flist is that Moriarty isn't Moriarty after all. He's actually a cover for someone else, possibly either a character named Molly or a character named Sarah that I don't think I've met yet.

I hope this is true. I think a female Moriarty would be just a little awesome.

Is that analysis or wishful thinking?

My favourite candidate for Moriarty is Mycroft's assistant - the one who kidnaps Watson in ep1 while never looking away from her crackberry.

I like the Watson they chose, and the actor. The exchange about last words of someone dieing in the first epp was perfect.
