Drat. I'd better burn my Lady GaGa CD and start buying Tangerine Dream instead.

On the other hand, that's not such a bad idea...

K-pop is making a decent showing in the female demographic. (SHINee and 2PM are both big-name K-pop groups. Plus that one that's actually in Hangul, which means I can't read it.)

I can't help but put my anthropologist hat on and point out that distribution is interestingly skewed according to gender. At least for the subset of last.fm users, women who use the internet seem to be those young enough to have grown up with computers.

(That and Donny Osmond is liked by middle aged women and no-one else!)

I'd suggest that the last.fm user base is very heavily skewed toward the under-thirty age group. Of all the artists in the above-thirty age group, I only recognized Judy Collins.

I'm also fascinated by the cluster of Yes, Genesis and Tangerine Dream in the same age group for males. Given the age of the people involved, I can only imagine that they imprinted on them from hearing them in the womb.

There really are a disproportionate number of metalheads on last.fm? I always thought that was just an illusion created for me by the parts of the site I pay attention to. But I guess the statistics really do appeal to the whole kvlt epeen thing AND the wiki/rec system appeals to the genere/obscurity obsessed, and then throw in a bit of a social effect too...

I'm surprised Lykke Li is that prominent... but the gender skew does match what I saw when I saw her perform.

I find it puzzling that I recognize less than half of the names in that chart, and of those, 90% of them are bands that are 25+ years old.

I usually find music charts puzzling, but this one is puzzling in a somewhat different way.

apparently I am a 25 y.o. woman. I'm sure my wife will agree.
