The latest Miles Vorkosigan book, for free, complete, legal, and DRM-free, in like 5 different formats. No registration. No login. No commitment. Oh, and it also includes the entire rest of the series AND a whole lot of other Bujold material.

Want to download that whole site as a CD ISO or a zip file? Go here.

Want the other 32 CDs of free ebooks? Go here. Some of them are, like Cryoburn, a single-series collection. Others, especially the earlier ones, are massive and diverse collections of "if you liked this, you might like...." Ever wanted to know what "OH JOHN RINGO NO" really means? Take a gander at Ghost and wonder no more.

There's a metric tons of content there, all of it free, some of it good.

Hm. I'd forgotten about those--and this means I don't have to re-buy the Weber stuff for Kindle! Awesome.

(I've already re-bought the Vorkosigan stuff, but I don't really mind.)

There are plenty of novels I'd download in a heartbeat, but oddly not Cryoburn. Not because I won't like it; I'm a raving fan of the Vorkosigan books. Indeed, it's because I'm a raving fan of the Vorkosigan books that I'm quite happy to plunk down real-cash-monies for a dead-tree version.* (Which I'm going to do later today, in fact.)

-- Steve'll definitely peruse the other titles in the collection, though. He's been looking to try some new stuff after spending far too long sticking with the collection he's already bought.

* I understand that the hardcover comes with the CD inside, for that matter.

They forgot one of the books... Memory.

I got to see here read at Powell's on Monday and she said "you can't make stuff like that up."

BTW... she was reading from her WIP... "Ivan: His Novel"

Yeah.. I noticed that too. And it isn't one of the ones I have in paperback. Will have to see if my dad does.

Thanks! Here via a comment in someone's blog - I wasn't aware they'd put Cryoburn on line yet - in the UK it's still very expensive for some reason, I've been waiting for the paperback.

Thanks for the note in James N.'s LJ. I didn't know CryoBurn was out and can't be arsed to head out to the bookstore tonight :) Now I can read in front of my computer all night.

Four people!

I'd actually prefer buying the Cryoburn hardcopy, but I prefer paperbacks since I read mostly on the road. Those can take forever to come out though...

Sigh. Time to get an eReader of some kind.

Might I suggest a Droid phone? Mine is working out AWESOMELY.

(My laptop, with Firefox and the HTML version, is a surprisingly good substitute)

I'm worried that the phone screen might not be convenient to read off. But since I need a new phone anyway, this is definitely something to check.

I found that using a laptop as a book substitute very unsatisfactory. It's basically uncomfortable in every way unless I'm sitting by a desk, which I'm usually not when I'm reading.

I'm not saying I won't hate it next week, but this week? My shiny new ShinyPhone appears to meet MOST of my reading needs.

Finally, I'll be able to read the Miles books in chronological order rather than 'whichever one dad just found in a bookstore' which was my previous method.

Holy shit, thank you. I was sad at having to wait for Cryoburn, but I shall wait no more.

Oh man, I had no idea Cryoburn was out yet either, nor about Baen doing this.
