"I'll tell you why [religion's] not a scam, in my opinion: tide goes in, tide goes out. Never a miscommunication. You can't explain that. See, the water, the tide comes in and it goes out, Mr. Silverman. It always comes in, and always goes out. You can't explain that. Duh, I eat poop." -Bill O'Reilly.

Yeah, this is making the rounds - and Silverman's expression is priceless. I will say, however, that I don't agree with Silverman's attacks on religion, just as I don't agree with religion's attacks on atheists. Silverman's billboard was the equivalent of a troll making a post on a very public forum because the troll wanted to make people foam at the mouth.

I have no idea who Silverman is. I've never heard of him.

However, pointing out that all religion is irrational, because if it wasn't nonsense they'd call it something other than "religion", is not an "attack". It's simply the truth.

Fucking angels, how do they dance on a pinhead?

(Not to be confusing with "fucking angels, how does Sodom work".)

I just saw the Colbert Report clip of this.

“... the great theological argument: There must be a God because I don't understand how things work.”

This isn't about Silverman.

Do we have to admit we're still not completely sure how gravity works.

There is a marked difference between presenting one's opinions civilly and politely, and being a troll. That billboard is, in my mind, trolling.

How you say it is as important as what you say.

He's the head of one of the big atheist organizations, apparently - I'd never heard of him, either, but I loved the expression on his face after Bill's comment.

We're not completely sure *why* it works, although we have working theories. *How* it works is totally well-documented math.

Point is, gravity exists: this is a fact. The earth's tides are caused by gravity: this is a fact. The moon is the source of tidal gravity: This is a fact. All of this is grade-school shit, and Fox's signature host doesn't believe it.

Point of information: Solar gravity also affects tides.

Yes, and Newton's laws are wrong when you accelerate, and things other than slavery marginally influenced The Slaver's Treason. And yet? For grade school work, this is close enough.
