It's illegal to sell whisky in the UK with that spelling unless it has actually been entirely made in Scotland, which is annoying because it means I'll never get to try a frosty can of Sir Edwin's 1896.
And it's not for saying it, it's for writing it on a label of alcohol. Living in a country where food label laws are horribly lax, I'm not going to complain about labelling laws. They're the difference between 'cheese' and 'cheese product.'
Yes, but that's a difference in what's actually in the food. There's no difference between "whiskey made in Scotland" and "whiskey not made in Scotland".
The Irish make Whiskey, the Scots make Whisky. It'd take too long here to go into why that's an important distinction. Trust me on this, it is.
the closest parallel I can immediately think of is that British football and American football are not the same thing. Both are sports, both are played with a ball. Other than that they are entirely different beasts. Same with whisky and whiskey
I spent 8.5 hours in a layover at the Tocumen airport and I was not made aware of this product. They should be handing out samples right as you step off the plane! I feel cheated.
