It's because, as has been shown, again and again, what people SAY God wants is always what THEY THEMSELVES want. "God" is a cipher, used to disclaim responsibility while claiming authority.
The fact that "what they want" doesn't match what their chosen book says never dissuades them, though, because they are, by definition, bad at thinking. It does allow for signs like this, which is kind of a nice perk, but it would be better if they just stopped being stupid in the first place.
I liked what this person (http://www.blameitonthevoices.com/2010/06/homosexuality-is-sin-because-bible-says.html). Specifically, "I need more than 'The Bible says so' to justify certain things in this world"
I <3 this, saw it on a friend's Facebook and reposted it on mine, and got someone going "I am pretty sure Jesus did not force everyone else to pay to the health care he provided".
Uh, Jesus was all about "follow me, free health care. Don't follow me, eternal torture."
Besides, his instructions to the rich - which were, "give everything except what you REALLY need to the people who don't have what you have", make it realy clear that even though he was providing the health care for no ADDITIONAL cost, the price of membership in the club that got ther health care was contributing to the social welfare of others.
Gee, sounds kind of like "taxes" to me? As a matter of fact, the attitude is very Canadian.
Her, actually, and it's past that point, because after everyone jumped on her, she just said that she was merely saying it wasn't a good analogy. I'm thinking "riiiight", but I'm not going to jump back into the fight.
Right, and Facebook is unthreaded so you can't pop a response to the original.
Still, keep those two in mind for next time, because I GUARANTEE you that she, like all religious people, will make the same argument again in the future, even though it's been conclusively debunked this time.
(I really love the "rich man gets into Heaven" part because so many funditards think "the eye of the needle" was the name of a narrow gate in Jerusalem. It wasn't.)

Date: 2011-01-25 07:58 pm (UTC)the problem with some people is that they let loose "GOD" in everything that THEY don't know rather than what isn't known by everyone else.
