OH HOLY CRAP IT IS AN ORRERY.

For extra happiness, click "Tychonian" in the bottom corner and have it start tracing the processions, and compare the poop-eater version to the Copernican.

I think poop-eater one would be Ptolemaic. Tychonian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tycho_Brahe) is basically Copernican, but with Earth set at (0,0) in the rendering. Jupiter still goes around the Sun in it, it's just that there's an illusion of the Earth not moving while this happens. It's an increasingly unuseful model, of course.

I don't know, Ptolemy was working on the best evidence at the time, the leading scientific theory. That it was wrong doesn't mean he wasn't doing his best.

Brahe's model was regressive. It was ignoring a fair bit of evidence at the time, mostly in the name of pacifying the Catholic church. Yeah, He had some other justifications, but those were mostly window dressing to the 'appease the clergy' center.

I don't want to call Brahe himself a shithead, because he was otherwise an excellent astronomer. He was still worlds ahead of, say, a modern creationist.

Why isn't it Brahnian?

I would love to see the Ptolemaic model, but coding in all those epicycles would be a bitch and half.
