I like Left 4 Dead.

I like, in theory, Versus mode in Left 4 Dead.

What I don't like is playing with complete nosedildos who are tripping on umulax.

And it's actually PRETTY HARD to get 8 people (the required[1] number for Versus in L4D) without pulling in random internet people who want to get their feelings all up in my areas. And while some random internet people are cool, most of 'em aren't, and the desire to not play with randoms tends to result in a coordinated team of 4 facing a pickup group, and coordinated teams versus randoms who probably can't even talk to each other leads to slaughter *almost* as fast as griefers do. And while that's way more fun than playing with teamkillers and saboteurs, it still ends pretty much the same way.

And so, I have a thought: Who's up for a little coordinated ultraviolence? Who wants to try to get 8 reasonable adults online and shoot zombies (and each other) all at once, splitting skill levels across teams deliberately, As Valve Intended?

Edit: Should probably include link to my Steam profile.

And also the Steam Group I created for it.

[1]: With less than 4 Infected, it's extremely hard to stop the Survivors at all. And a Survivor team with a bot against 4 Infected is doomed. Leaving aside, y'know, the various team games with goals other than "run the level", where the presence of the bot will get you totally 200% killed a lot of times over.

I probably count as internet random for you anyway, and I'm pretty bad at L4D, and there will probably be time-zone issues, but I'm well up for that for philosophical reasons.

L4D has been sitting in my 'waiting to play' pile for a while now, for the simple reason that I've always worried about ruining the game for someone else by being crap.

...That's probably not the best way to advertise myself, but hey, it seems more enjoyable to play with people who actually want to play together rather than just swear at each other, if you don't mind me being inexperienced.

Just don't fall off the same spot on a building more than 3 times in a row and we won't laugh at you.
Because 3 is just funny.

7 is trying our patience. No, that limit did get hit once.

I totally don't mind inexperienced people. It's actually more fun, I find, with a mix of people, as long as nobody is super-good. As soon as anyone is a real expert, it becomes much less fun to play with them in a mixed-skill group.

Besides, two of the people I play with most often these days are complete Easy Mode noobs, and more people to spread around the joy is always nice.

(Besides, I'm damn good on the Survivors side... but I SUCK as Infected. I can't hit shit.)

Also doesn't help that I never play the Versus modes because I can't reliably find a game that doesn't involve random internet nosedildos.

Even if they're all on the same side, it's BORING when they sabotage their own team then ragequit.

Kev hates Versus though. But I'm in.
Remember I'm CST. I get home roughly 6pm.

Thursday is a wash out. Dinner guests.

I played L4D2 competitively for about 6 months.

Survivors in the default versus mode should never ever lose - assuming equivalently skilled, co-ordinated teams on both sides.

The sheer amount of medkits is a joke, Defibs are outright unbalanced and pill density is about 6 times higher than it needs to be.

More than 1 or 2 Tier 2 weapons (AR, LOL-autoshotgun/SPAStic, AK, ALL snipers) makes the game absolutely trivial.

Melee weapons are good, but again, more than 1 or 2 is ridiculous.

Throwables (molly's/pipes) are also about 6-8 times too dense.

Finally, there is simply not enough "Punishable by death" Choke points for death smoker pulls or death charge's in the Valve maps.

I used to play a modification called Confogl which did removed quite a lot of things above.

It also made each round guarantee a tank (at the exact same trip point), 75% chance of a witch on each level (again, at the exact same point), and added scoring based on damage done (as well as the standard completion distance).

This *greatly* increased my enjoyment of the game. Unfortunately I moved house and had to drop playing with my team (as we were *incredibly* explicit - and i was now spending time with my parents).

There is also a mod for 2v2 Confogl, removing the need to find 8 intelligent non mouth-breathers - finding 3 others is far less challenging.

Also after you've gotten used to living without medkits, billions of throwables, defibs and pretty much all Tier 2 weaponry - When you jump back on a pub server, you have a tendency to kill 3/4 infected every attack, save 3/4 survivors, crown witches in your sleep with tier 1 shottys, Annhilate tanks by playing incredibly aggressive on them, cruise through horde like a hot knife through butter and in general be one of those players everyone loves to claim is "hacking".

Oh and you get *much* better at playing SI as well.

Look it up.

"SI"?

Also: I'm not terrible interested in becoming super-expert, although that's nice. It's more, I want to get a chance to *play in this mode* without it being stupid, which is really hard to do, since you need 8 non-stupid people in two teams of roughly-equivalent skill and communication.

Special Infected :)

The other bonus of playing it competitively is you have regular, organised matches (as well as practice games outside of said ranked matches) with people who aren't nosedildos.

For me the draw was that it was probably the most twitchy game since Q3 - and I'm a huge Twitch shooter fan. Also that the gameplay is dynamic and boils down to what you can think of on your feet with your fellow teammates, then execute it.

I too only have L4D2 and could be vaguely interested in this, depending when it is. Random Internet Teams always worry me with the possibility of nosedildos, and playing competitively guarantees a nosedildo-rich environment, so I only ever really play when myself and some friends want to do a campaign.

I'd be up for a game. I've got both L4Ds, although I haven't played in some time so I'm probably rusty.

I'm already on your friends list ([DFB] Kowh) so send an invite my way, or alternately, snub me for never actually managing to join any game you're in despite having you on my list for awhile now.
