Well, if I remember right the big snake is a garden snake... My son was a huge fan of them as a kid. They are basically harmless.

Well, basically harmless to gigantic monkeys like ourselves. Wee little guy there with eyes bigger than his stomach, not quite so safe :)
Garter snakes (the big one) do have sharp little teeth and the ability to constrict small animals to death, just no venom.
