Unrepentant member of the Hitler Youth formally forgives Jews for murdering Jesus.

Quoth my lovely wife: "Give it up! If Christ had been run over by a chariot, the guy would be out of jail by now."

I have to say, for the Holy Roman Church to convince everyone for thousands of years that the Jews killed that guy and not the Roman military is an amazing piece of continued propaganda and revisionist history.

To be entirely fair, he doesn't "forgive", he "exonerates", meaning he says they never dunnit, which is actually much better. He does it by saying that a bit in the Bible means something other than what it says, but you have to with the Bible if you want to be a Christian and still make sense because it's full of idiotic statements.

He doesn't exonerate *all* Jews:
Benedict says the reference was to the "Temple aristocracy," who wanted Jesus condemned to death because he had declared himself king of the Jews and had violated Jewish religious law.
He concludes that the "real group of accusers" were the Temple authorities and not all Jews of the time.

So, it's the eeeevil Jewish hierarchy wot dun it. Not the ordinary Jew-next-door. Nonononono. Really, some of his best friends are of the Jewish persuasion.....

I never will understand the whole "Jews killed Jesus" thing. First of all, Jesus *was* Jewish. Secondly, wasn't he *supposed* to die? Wasn't it God's will and the fulfillment of the prophecies and our ultimate salvation and all that? So wouldn't that make whoever killed him the divine hand of God?

I don't get it.

Actually, Jeebus dying wasn't the fulfillment of the prophecies. According to the prophecies of the Messiah (most of them can be found in Isiah), he would be a king - a real king with a crown and an army and stuff - and basically, he would drive out the Romans, bring peace, joy, prosperity and freedom to Israel, all Jews everywhere would acknowledge him as king, blahblahblah. Most important of all, he wouldn't die, at least not before achieving all this.
I happen to know this because I've been writing an article on this subject, to refute some New Age twaddle-monger who stated that yeah, the Jews were responsible for having Jeebus killed, because, hey, they weren't spiritually advanced enough to recognise his Godhood, not like us enlightened New Agers.....
