Oregon: Dragged kicking and scream.... oh no wait. But at least you're no longer allowed to DELIBERATELY murder your children because you think magic is better than medicine?

Pigfucker Jim Weidner, R-Yamhill, said he worried "we might be heading down a slippery slope, duh, I eat poop." He said he prayed earlier in the day about his son's severe tonsillitis. His wife took his son to the doctor Thursday morning, he added, but "am I going to go to prison because I took the time to pray with my child? Duh, I eat poop!"

Dear pig fucker: No, your wife is smarter than you, and took your son to see a doctor. The fact that you waved chicken bones, spoke in tongues, and sacrificed a goat is not, in fact, actionable, since you didn't actively prevent *real* treatment, that actually had a chance of working, from reaching the child you're abusing. You are, unfortunately, legally free to keep abusing him as long as you also keep letting people who aren't stupid help him to not be like you.

If people want to make these decisions for themselves, then, well i don't agree with them but people are free to do what they want to themselves.

But for the kids? Kids as property again, ugh

Again: pray all you want. Go to the doctor, too. I just don't get it.
To be fair, if a person is religious, I'd also consider it daft for them not to pray on top of the doctor visit. But take the doctor seriously. Trust in Allah but tie up your camel.

I really don't get these religious crazies who think that they don't need doctors. When their car breaks down, they don't pray over it, they take it to a mechanic, right? So why don't they do the same when their kid needs fixing?

Cars involve working mechanical parts they can see and hear, and bodies involve tiny cells and chemical processes that seem ethereal? Maybe? A lot of people I know understand intellectually that muscles contract to make our parts move, but can't really picture how that works. They may understand and respect modern medicine, but a lot of the time it's without understanding how or why it works, in a "take this pill and it will fix you" kind of way, which can make it seem more than a little arbitrary sometimes. And many, many people just in general are deeply uncomfortable with the inner workings of their own human bodies, either because it makes the whole confusing process seem so very out of their control or because it prompts an animal fear of how easily harm could come to them or something else I'm not sure of. Perhaps just because it violates the happy clean sanitized cutesy world we live in.

I don't know if any of that's a direct contributing factor, but I imagine it doesn't help.
