I guess if he meant for his art to provoke, it accomplished that.

Hopefully the negatives are intact and another photograph can be produced.

Unbelievable. I wanna be just like them...ignorant, intolerant, and small-minded. (eyeroll)

Religion is the bane of mankind.

I like the gallery's response:

"The gallery director, Eric Mézil, said it would reopen with the destroyed works on show "so people can see what barbarians can do"."

This seems like the proper thing to do.

When I heard the photo described, I thought, "That's not very clever, in fact that's kind of gross" and basically dismissed it as French people being French at each other. But it provoked a reaction from exactly the sort of people the artist was trying to expose, so I guess it was true art after all.

How much I care about shock art is directly proportional to how many abysmally stupid people are shocked by it, and what they do in response.

I suspect your approach is the most common one.

These are the same people who routinely pee their pants over Muslim extremists.

Uh, yes. And the crusaders for sexual virtue and defenders of marriage are ALWAYS cheating on their spouses with donkeys.

That's how religious idiocy *works*.
