Pourrais-je avoir une baguette et un café?

Pourrais-je avoir un lézard et une tronçonneuse?

Is there something I could enter into Google Translate to get similar words?:P

If you didn't speak any French, would you know the words weren't similar?

Even without knowing Spanish, I can tell that English "embarrassed" and the Spanish "embarrassada" are similar, as are the English "sensible" and Italian "sensibile" and other false friends (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_friend).

Yes, but this is not you saying you are pregnant because you think it's the right word. This is needing to recognise that the words *are* similar without accepting that dissimilar words might be right.

The fact that "baguette" is a loanword from French to begin with is part of why it's funny.

I've always thought they missed a golden opportunity to use the phrase "To craunch a marmoset" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_as_she_is_spoke).

I have been torturing Google Translate with that phrase and testing it in various languages. :)
