They already are. How many people do you know that have a fax machine?

My printer has the fax capability built in. I most recently made use of it almost two years ago. I think I've faxed maybe ten times over the past ten years.

(Some places still need to see your signature; they haven't gotten to digital signing yet.)

At my work, we process credit cards, and we occasionally get chargebacks (people denying that they used their credit card to buy stuff from us). The banks want to be faxed back with details of why we think they're full of shit and they did indeed decide to use their card to buy stuff from us.

To help reduce the workload on our staff, I wrote a script that collated all the information we had on our customer, plonked it in a PDF file, and added boilerplate to the effect of "I'm blah responsible for chargeback challenges, and I contest this chargeback for the following reasons", including a signature.

The person named in the auto-generated PDFs has since left the company, but we carry on using her name and signature. The banks don't appear to have noticed / cared.

they won't care. the person is merely an agent for the company: *that's* who they care about.
