Call the cops because your boyfriend is beating the shit out of you? Get deported.

There's versions of this story floating around that say she is an illegal immigrant, and versions that say she's legal but her visa was revoked for being arrested and "associating with known criminals" like the guy she called the cops on. Anyone got a link with an actual answer either way?

The bad news: It's really unclear whether she is legally here. To complicate matters, ICE CAN revoke visas for being arrested on felony charges, even if the charges are dropped. Ditto for associating with known criminals - for instance, if she knew her boyfriend had a criminal record, she could be immediately deported. They tell you this when you apply for a visa here. (Point of fact, they told me the same thing when I applied for my residence visa in Germany - take up with criminals, we'll ship your ass back home as fast as we can manage.)

That the deportation proceedings have been suspended tells me that something else is going on that has not been reported.

Fucking cops! Who the fuck do the think they are, enforcing ALL the laws?

Having spent years living on visas in foreign countries, I made sure I didn't break the law, however ridiculous I thought it might be. Having spent years and a pile of money getting my wife into the country legally, I'm not overly sympathetic to illegal immigration.
