He is. The picture really doesn't do him justice. He's tall and lean, with lovely long legs and a magnificent tail, and he's a sweet big goofball.

Scotland is a big place - some idea of location would be handy.
And animal shelters here are pretty good - most won't destroy. Dog shelters in Scotland (http://www.dogpages.org.uk/scotland.htm). Not sure about the SSPCA, but the smaller ones always try to rehome healthy dogs.

Glasgow, but I believe the poster in question has said "anywhere in the UK" because she is willing to help with transport.

And, really, a no-kill shelter is better than nothing, but it's not as good as a home.

(PS: The entirety of the UK fits between Montreal and Toronto. It's not big.)

Thanks-- yes, theweaselking speaks sooth. We are Glasgow based, but if there's a good home for this boy and it's far away, so long as I can get there, I will do my darndest. Trains go pretty much all over the place, volcanoes notwithstanding.

Scottish shelters are generally good. I would not cast aspersions upon them: they do work very hard to care for and rehome healthy dogs. They are, however, always inundated with healthy dogs, and it's harder to find homes for big dogs. And yes: not as good as a home.

Our current oldest dog is 14 and came from a shelter, he's not a GS, but he is a collie cross on the larger side, and is lovely.

But we've got two dogs in a small house, if Byron weren't healthy we'd be up for it but as he is there's just no way another will fit.

Dogs Trust are bloody good, can recommend them if you have no other option, they're quite good at housing dogs as well.

Similar situation here: Berkeley is 11 and we have two others, one quite large (Akita) and not a very big flat. I do hope they'll consider Dog's Trust. I left them my number and asked them to call me first please if they're just going to take him to Cardonald.

Good news for Sabre. They came back today for some more stuff and it turns out that the uncle, who is currently looking after Sabre, will keep him, so that's him sorted out with someone he already knows.

Sigh of relief!

Thanks to everyone for reading, and thanks especially, theweaselking, for posting this!
